The impurity, PVC or PE, in the mixture of metal and plastics, is easily removed in a cryogenic process. At liquid nitrogen temperature, PVC shatters into small particles when it is impacted, while polyethylene and other plastics do not. After the process, the relatively large foreign substances can be removed, thus getting purer PVC. Typically, the resulting different plastics are then compounded with virgin PVC and used as a sound-barrier material in automobiles or in other high-value applications. The pre-sorting refers to the separation of long cable sections by cable recycling machine, type of insulation, conductor diameter, plated or unplated conductor, densely baled cable, and pieces of ferrous and non-ferrous metal from loose cable.

More importantly, pre-sorting includes sorting copper cables from aluminum- containing cable. Pre-sorting can maximize the value of metal scrap and make further separation of plastics easier.

Cable chopping is usually needed in large plants but selectable in smaller plants and is usually desirable for processing long cable sections. It is the first step in reducing the size of the cable scrap. Cryogenic processing is to make use of the diversity of plastics’ reflection at liquid nitrogen temperatures. For example, some cable choppers sell relatively high-purity PVC and PE to companies which can further purify the various plastics to purity levels higher than 99%.

A large quantity of cable scrap usually needs a complete line to accomplish the copper recycling work. Do you know the complete cable granulating process of copper wire recycling machine? If you do not know this point, let me tell you!

It includes five steps: pre-sorting, cable chopping, granulation, screening and density separation. After the basic separation by copper recycling machine, we respectively get pure metal and plastic tailings, but it is not the end of the chain. Further processing of plastic tailings can make you get greater value in metal scrap recycling. Then how to make it? There are two methods: cryogenic processing and hydrogravimetric processing.
